Dark reader extension5/20/2023 ![]() What are the versions Are you using the latest build of Dark Reader from the master branch or the Chrome Web Store version (4.9.34)?.Are you using Chrome, or some other browser?.Are you using Windows, macOS, Linux, or other OS?.In case you still can't reproduce, can you give out your system configuration when trying to reproduce? Same reproduction steps as in my previous post after system theme is dark: are cleared, after the system is set to dark mode I recommend reproducing the bug with a blank profile in Chrome (or use the Guest profile) so all cookies etc. An example of a nonreproducing setup is here (notice the light Windows taskbar on the left): When the system is in light mode ( even if the website is set to dark mode using the setting at the bottom of the page), the bug will not reproduce. (websites can detect your system light/dark mode) For some reason this contributes to the bug being reproduceable. This way will try to automatically set dark mode for its website without having you to manually scroll to the bottom and select. Your system must be in Dark Mode (not Light Mode) when you visit the website to reproduce the bug (on Windows 10, it is Settings -> Personalization -> Colors): 131 (Official Build) Sorry for taking your precious time away, but I discovered an additional setting needed to reproduce this bug: My system info in case that is important in reproducing the bug:Ĭhrome version: Version. Afterwards, the bug will not reproduce no matter how many refreshes is done (until you toggle the switch on and off again as in step 1, or possibly by other means I have not discovered yet.).If you do more refreshes, the site might switch back to normal dark mode. The bug will occur: site switches to high contrast mode.(seems superstitious, but trust me this is necessary) Turn on dark reader (using the "Toggle Extension" switch) when visiting and then turn it off again.I know intermittent bugs are the hardest to reproduce, but I have a few tips (or maybe superstitions since I have no way of verifying whether they actually work) on when the bug is more likely to occur: I even tried creating a blank new profile in Chrome (so all Chrome and Dark Reader settings are default settings) and this bug still occurs. Like I said, I've checked it on different machines by now to ensure I wasn't crazy or just a flook and I was correct that dark reader doesn't let default to high contrast Unfortunately, this is still happening for me. ![]() You don't have to ping alexander for this, I have the same rights to reopen issues and was quite frankly also the one to triage this issue and resolve it so you most likely want me to check the issue again and decide to reopen it. ![]() You can check the source code yourself if you'd like. ![]() This sounds like you don't trust dark reader and things it will do stuff without any reason, I can ensure you that dark reader only does the bare minimum necessary to make a good experience. I have to rely on DarkReader honoring my setting and not tampering/modifying random stuff on the website which it doesn't. This behavior was caused by dark reader due to how variables worked at that time and some other factors which has by now fixed - I checked this again on a fresh new profile without any previous history and works as intended and doesn't default to high-contrast even with darkreader enabled and when disabled. The title indeed implied that even if dark reader excluded the site it was set to high contrast. I reset and reinstalled my browser, and tried in Incognito: But as soon as I install / enable Darkreader, forces the High contrast scheme on me. Of course, high contrast mode is not enabled in my operating system, or this issue would be redundant. Darkreader Version: 4.9.16 - this started happening not more than a month ago.obvious "High contrast" theme is active, however. The website always switches to "High contrast". The website should stick to the actually selected theme and not magically switch to "High contrast" Even if this domain is excluded, the High Contrast scheme is always picked after a refresh or immediately.See that it switches to the "High contrast" scheme (which is also available at the bottom "Theme" menu) instead of keeping the "Dark" or "Light" theme. ![]()
